You see, I may have said 'monsters' at first, but really I'd just gotten carried away by the fact we're in a magical city full of curses. What I was really given was an ambiguous warning about predators in the underground, including robbers I think, and also there's a safe path to the circus, where they have zoo animals, shows, and games that aren't rigged.
